Week two of the Fearless Football Forecasters (FFF) is in the books, and if the rest of the season continues like the first two weeks, it is going to be a wild and crazy season. This week, all of the panelists missed wins by Brigham Young over Utah, Stanford over Southern California, and Oregon winning at Ohio State.
Leading the way again in week two was Andy Whitener, who went 10-6 to increase his overall lead to five games.
Whitener was the only FFF panelist to correctly pick wins by Iowa over Iowa State and the Steelers over the Bills. Whitener was pretty happy after his good week and he seemed to be poking a little fun at his peers as well, saying, “It looks like some of the forecasters have forgotten that we are supposed to be picking the winners of the games.”
Coming in at 9-7 for the week was the trio of Kevin Panter, Suzianne Pass, and defending champion Scott Ramsey. After not being reached for comment last week, Panter seems to have stored up a bunch of trash talk for the whole panel, saying, “It looks like Andy Whitener got his three wishes out of that genie bottle he found at the beach and all the forecasters that pick Tennessee can go ahead like the Vols do, and start saying ‘wait till next year.’ Maybe Ramsey needs to start back like last year and consult with his wife again for his picks. It is going to be a great football season, my picks will be as strong as Georgia’s defense. Tennessee fans should have realized that they only beat ‘bowl of greens’ last week, which was in fact, a culinary art school, and not Bowling Green.”
Pass seems to be in shock about Whitener’s winning picks this year, simply saying, “What in the world had gotten into Andy Whitener? I have never seen him do this well. However, with that being said, I have a lot of catching up to do! I cannot let Ramsey win this contest again!”
Ramsey, the reigning, defending champ, says he is just trying to be fair this year, and wants to show good sportsmanship to the others. “I am holding back early to give others hope. It looks like Andy is trying to take advantage of the opportunity. Pass did a little better this week, so she must have let her middle school daughter pick. No worries though, I will be back in first place soon.”
Finishing week two with a record of 8-8 was Eddie O’Neal, Coach Jeff Grimes, and Brandon Holloway. When reached by phone, O’Neal said, “After my picks, I have no comment!” Grimes, who’s giddy over his Michigan Wolverine’s 2-0 start, had lots to say about the weekend. “Even though my picks were riddled with upsets…it is NEVER a bad week when the Buckeyes lose and the Wolverines win! To my Vol friends…I apologize for the jinx by picking them to beat Pitt, but also say you are welcome for my Wolverines gift of your starting quarterback Milton…enjoy! But at least, UT was not among the other SEC teams who chose to schedule high school teams this weekend (Alabama is full of future NFL draft picks, way to step up and take on Mercer)!”
Finishing in the basement for the week was John Spargo, who went 7-9. Spargo said he has no clue how to pick games anymore but knows he has got to get things turned around before it gets embarrassing. Spargo said, “I really do feel like I know about football, but based on the way I’m picking games this year, you would not know it. I have to figure out a way to get above .500 for a week because this is becoming kind of embarrassing and I’m digging myself a huge hole.”
Join us next week as we see what happens in week three of the Fearless Football Forecasters.
