Track: Ten Fannin athletes earn right to compete for state titles
Ten Fannin County High School Track and Field athletes have advanced to state competition following their performances at the Sectional Meet this past weekend.
Sydney German, Lindsey Holloway, Karli Sams, Ava Acker, Sydney Ford, Carlee Holloway, Airianna Galloway, Cooper Born and Zecharian Prater will all compete in the State Championships Thursday, May 9, through Saturday, May 11, at East Jackson High School.
Each athlete, whether individually or part of a team, advanced to the state events by placing in the top eight in the respective categories.
“By making it to the state, these athletes are considered to be one of the best athletes in the state in their event,” Head coach Miranda Roof said.
Earning the right to compete this weekend in their respective events were:
•Sydney German placed 8th in the Shot Put with a personal record throw of 30 feet and .5 inches. This throw places her in the Top 100 sophomores in Georgia, in all regions, A through 7A.
•Lindsey Holloway placed 2nd in the 1600m Run with a personal record time of 5:18.21. This time places her in the Top 100 in the state, regions A through 7A, and in the Top 20 juniors in the state.
•Lindsey Holloway also placed 1st in the 3200m Run. Lindsey is currently ranked in the Top 25 in Georgia and in the Top 10 juniors in the state in this event.
•Karli Sams placed 3rd in the 1600m Run with a personal record time of 5:22.42. This time places Karli in the Top 100 in the state and in the Top 20 sophomores in Georgia.
• Sams also placed 2nd in the 3200m Run. Karli is currently ranked in Georgia’s Top 75 and in the Top 15 sophomores in the state.
•Ava Acker placed 4th in the 800m Run. Ava is currently ranked in the Top 40 sophomores in all regions statewide in this event.
•Sydney Ford placed 4th in the 3200m Run. Sydney is currently ranked in the Top 50 freshmen statewide in this event.
•The girls 4x800m Relay team made up of Lindsey Holloway, Carlee Holloway, Ava Acker, and Karli Sams placed 1st with a personal record time of 10:00.12. This time places the team in the Top 30 in Georgia.
•The girls 4x400m Relay team made up of Airianna Galloway, Annaleigh Cheatham, Ava Acker, Carlee Holloway placed 8th with a personal record time of 4:17.00
•Cooper Born placed 2nd in the Discus with a personal record throw of 132 feet and 6 inches. This throw places Cooper in the Top 75 juniors in Georgia in all regions, A through 7A.
•Zechariah Prater placed 1st in the 1600m Run. Zechariah is currently ranked in Georgia’s Top 50, region sizes A through 7A.
•Prater also placed 1st in the 3200m Run, ad is ranked in the Top 40 in Georgia and in the Top 15 seniors in the entire state, regions A through 7A in this event.
Roof said, “All the coaches are extremely proud of these athletes and look forward to how they will compete at the State Championship Meet.”
