The next stop for the Fannin County High School (FCHS) boys and girls cross country teams is the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) 1A Division 1 sectional meet.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, when the FCHS teams will compete against others from regions 5, 6, 7 and 8. This meet will determine where the teams finish in Region 7 and if they earn the right to compete in the state championships.
The teams are coming off their most recent meet at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, October 22.
The varsity girls’ team, made up of Lindsey Holloway, Karli Sams, Kensley Pickelsimer, Lana Hicks, Annaleigh Cheatham and Claire Saxon, finished fourth out of 14 teams.
Holloway finished second out of 90 runners in the varsity girls’ race with a time of 19:48. Sams finished fourth with a time of 20:33. Both Holloway and Sams received a t-shirt for finishing in the top 10. They also both met the Milesplit Bronze Level Standard for their times in the race. Pickelsimer finished 13th in the race.
The varsity boys’ team, consisting of Hudson Lynch, Austin Prieto, Joe DiBenedetto, Rylin Davis, Gage Bryan, Gavin Davis, Henry Schueneman, Aiden Jones, Brodey Angel and Matthew Ponton, finished eighth out of 14 teams.
Brady Smith, Kevin Cruz, Jaxson Bittner and Kaden Majors competed in the JV boys’ race.
Eighth grader Jacquelyn Cline placed second in the JV girls’ race.
