Fannin County Lady Rebel softball player Kayleigh Russell signed a scholarship to continue her education and athletic career at Bryan College Wednesday, November 13.
Fannin County head softball coach Alan Collis said, “We’re excited for Kayleigh, this is something she has worked for her whole life, she set a goal probably as a small child, we are so excited. She has chosen a great school and we’re just excited to see what she does.
Kayleigh is an outstanding student athlete, she will be very much missed by the FCHS softball program. She has a great glove, great bat, can play anywhere in the infield.”
Bryan College assistant softball coach Pete Massengale said, “I’ve watched her several times, she just has that character. For us at Bryan College we have a certain criteria, God, education and softball. If they don’t fall in that order, I’m probably not going to even talk to them. Watching her interact with her team and coaches, the character is there and that’s what we look for.”
Russell was near perfect field ing this season for the Lady Rebels with a .809 fielding percentage.
The Lady Lions finished the 2018-2019 season going 20-28 overall with a 13-13 conference record. Russell should make an immediate impact for the Lady Lions.
She will join the Bryan College Lady Lions in the Fall.
