Record season ends in Elite 8

The Fannin County Rebels fell to BEST Academy Eagles, 69-43, as Kolton Kaylor scored 21 points Wednesday, February 26.

The loss ended the record setting season for the Rebels who had earned a spot in the Elite Eight game for the first time in school history. Fannin ended its season 20-10 overall and as Region Runner Ups.

The Rebels kept things close in the opening quarter, trailing 12-9 at the buzzer.

Then the visitors to the FCHS gym opened the game up with an offense that outscored Fannin 23-7 for a 35-16 halftime lead.

The fourth quarter was the best for Fannin County Rebels as they outscored the Eagles 18-16, but it was too late.

Kaylor knocked down three shots from beyond the arc for the Rebels. The team passed the ball well with 13 assists on 17 made baskets. Matthew Ponton led the team with eight assists. Fannin blocked six shots in the game. Brody Henson led the team with three blocks. Kaylor and Henson each collected five rebounds to lead the Rebels on the glass.

Behind Kaylor’s game leading 21 points were Jack Sparkswith six points, Cannon Holloway adding five points, Keaton Watkins and Henson with four points each and Hudson Ethington who scored three points.

BEST Academy went on to win their Final Four match up Saturday, earning a spot in the state championship game.
