The Fannin County wrestling team is off to a great season. The Rebels defeated 7A Cherokee County 51-26 Tuesday, November 19.
The Rebels have also topped Chestatee 44-21 and region rival Dawson County 48-36.
Fannin also notched dominant wins against LaGrange (60-22), Northside Columbus (66-12), East Paulding (66-12) and Newman (48-36).
Wrestling head coach Chuck Patterson is in his first year as the Rebels head coach and proud of the way his team is playing, saying, “The kids are responding well to increased intensity and sense of urgency at practice and I think that is a testament to their work ethic and drive to be a successful wrestling program.”
Patterson continued, “Even the boys who lost put everything they had into not getting pinned to not give to up unnecessary bonus points to a tough Cherokee team. We are currently 7-1 on the season with a good mix of under and upper class men. The middle school program run by coach Padgett has provided a strong foundation for the future success of these kids on the mat and coach (Alan) Collis has done a tremendous job getting the high school ready to go. We are on the move and the sky is the limit!”
