The Fannin County Rebels basketball team hosted the Murphy Bulldogs for a preseason matchup Thursday, November 14.
The Rebels had a slow start, but exploded in the third and fourth quarters to take a 50-49 win over the Bulldogs.
Landon Norton led all scores with 16 points. The Rebels put up nine points in the first quarter led by senior Jerrett Holloway who drained a three pointer. Jordan Bennett, Kaeden Twiggs and Tucker Hanson score a two point bucket each to round out the first quarter. Murphy put up eight points in the first as the Rebels led 9-8 heading into the second quarter.
Bennett led the Rebels in the second quarter with a three point basket. Brady Martin and Norton scored a two-point bucket, while Holloway was able to convert two free throws for another nine point quarter.
The Bulldogs put up 12 in the second to lead 20-18 at the half. The Rebels offense began to come alive in the third quarter as Norton erupted for six points off of a three ball, two-point basket and a free throw. Twiggs and Martin converted a two-point bucket and free throw each, while Derrick Peacock got a two-point bucket to fall. Bennett converted one free throw as well to give the Rebels 17 points in the third.
Murphy score 10 points as the Rebels led 35-30 heading into the final quarter.
Norton continued to have the hot hand as he netted a three pointer, two-point basket and one free throw.
Hanson scored three points in the fourth, converting three free throws. Bennett and Peacock combined for four points, each scoring a two-point bucket. Holloway also added to his total by converting two free throws to give the Rebels a 15 point third quarter.
The Bulldogs put up 19 points in the fourth as the Rebels escape with a close 50-49 victory over Murphy.
