Fannin County’s baseball team hit the road Monday, March 8, for a region 7AA matchup with Model. It was a tough day for the Rebel offense as Model shut out Fannin 3-0.
The Blue Devils struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Fannin struggled to get anything going with their bats, although the Rebels hit the ball solid, unfortunately, it seemed to find a Blue Devil glove.
In the top of the fourth inning, Wyatt Rogers drew a one-out walk and stole second base with Logan Hughes at the plate, who eventually walked as well, giving the Rebels runners on first and second with two out. After an inning-ending strikeout, the runners were stranded and the scoring threat was as well. Model scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Fannin gave up two walks to start the inning. An error on a popup loaded the bases for the Devils, but the Rebels turned a double play, hoping to get out of the inning with no runs allowed. However, following another walk and a single, Model plated two more runs to increase their lead to 3-0 going to the top of the sixth inning. Two walks in the inning by Rogers and Bradley Holloway had the Rebels back in business to try to cut into the Devil lead, but a strikeout again ended the inning and the scoring threat for Fannin County. The Rebels went quietly in the top of the seventh inning, and Model had a shutout in the region battle by the score of 3-0. Logan Hughes pitched six innings, striking out three Model batters, and only giving up one earned run on four hits. Rogers reached base on two walks and Hughes and Holloway also reached on a walk once each.
