The Fannin County Rebels and Lady Rebels’ tennis teams traveled to Rome, Georgia, to battle in the region tournament.
The boys played well and were able to qualify for the state tournament. In the Rebels first matchup of the day against Dade County, Sam Jabaley won his match handily 6-0, 6-0 in singles. Jake Jones easily won his match as well 6-4, 6-2. Luke Pelfrey played well, but came up short, losing his match 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, Rob Russell and Will Jones won their match 6-1, 6-2, while Bryan McCalley and Gavin Jones won their match 6-1, 6-2. With the doubles teams winning, the Rebels qualified for state and will return to Rome to compete for seeding. The Rebels will face a team in Region 6 as the third or fourth seed depending on how the seeding goes.
In the second matchup of the day against Gordon Central, Jabaley was the lone Rebels to win his match, as he topped his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
On the girls' side, their first opponent was Pepperell. Anna Beth Minear finished her match in a tie. Due to the match length, they were not allowed to play a tiebreaker match. Kati Kraft and Cabella Hughes played exceptional, but came up just short. In doubles, Emma Mitchell and Peyton Rogers, who has played well all season, came up just, as well as McKenzie Chastain and McKenna Hill.
The Lady Rebels were eliminated by the number two seed, but capped a very successful season.
