The Fannin County Rebels basketball team started the 2019-2020 basketball season at home Tuesday, November 19, as they took on the Southeast Whitfield County Raiders.
The game was close the whole way through, but the Rebels made a push late to beat the Raiders 40-35.
Landon Norton led the Rebels in the first, tacking on five points from a three pointer and a two-point bucket. Kaeden Twiggs drained a three from deep in the first quarter as well to give the Rebels eight points. The Raiders scored 12 points to take an early 12-8 lead over Fannin.
The Rebels found a rhythm in the second quarter as senior Jerritt Holloway heated up for five points on a three pointer and a two-point basket. Jordan Bennett knocked in a three ball, followed by Twiggs and Norton scoring a two-point bucket each.
Fannin outscored the Raiders 12-10 in the second as the Raiders clinged to a 22-20 lead heading into halftime.
Twiggs and Tucker Hanson were the only two Rebels to score in the third, as they combined for eight points on two, two-point buckets each. The Rebels defense tightened up as well, holding the Raiders to just six points as the game was tied heading into the fourth.
Holloway proved to be vital in the fourth, as he went a perfect six of six from the free throw line. Hanson scored five points on a three ball and two-point bucket, while Brady Marton capped the Rebels 12-point fourth quarter with one free throw.
Fannin held the Raiders to seven points in the fourth as the Rebels came away with the 40-35 victory and remain unbeaten at 1-0.
