The Fannin County Rebels baseball team hosted Pepperell for game two of a three game region series Wednesday, March 30, in Blue Ridge. The rebels got on the board early, and protected their lead to grab a huge win against the Dragons by a score of 4-3.
After a 1-2-3-inning from starting pitcher Jason Pearson, the Rebels grabbed the lead with two runs in the first inning. Bryson Holloway and Connor Martin got things going with back-to-back singles, and after a two-out intentional walk to Jake Kuna, Sawyer Moreland delivered an RBI single to drive in Holloway for a 1-0 lead. With the bases still loaded, Carson Callihan’s walk forced in another Rebel run, giving them an early 2-0 lead heading into the second inning.
Pepperell tied the game up with two runs of their own in the top of the second, but the Rebels answered in the bottom of the inning as Clay Heaton scored on a sacrifice fly by Martin, giving Fannin a 3-2 lead.
Fannin County loaded the bases again in the bottom of the third inning with Kuna and Moreland drawing back-to-back walks, and Callihan getting plunked with a pitch. Heaton forced in a run as he drew a walk, scoring Moreland, making the new score 4-2 in favor of the Rebels.
Both pitchers took over the game until the Dragons got on the board again in the sixth inning, cutting the Rebel lead to 4-3, but that was as close as they could get the rest of the day, giving the Rebels an important region win.
Martin had a single and an RBI for Fannin, as did Moreland. Holloway also had a base hit, while Callihan chipped in another RBI.
Pearson and Martin combined on the mound, giving up only four hits and striking out seven Dragon batters.
