Rebels late effort not enough against Bears

The Rebels basketball team host a region matchup against the Cherokee Bluff Bears on Friday, December 13.

The Rebels played well for four quarters, but the Bears came out winning the game 61-54.

Cohutta Hyde led the Rebels in the opening quarter as the junior netted two, two-point buckets, Kaeden Twiggs was able to get a three point bucket to fall and Miles Johnson hit a nice turn-around jumper in the post for two points.

Jalen Ingram capped the Rebels scoring with a free throw to end a 10-point first quarter for Fannin. The Bears scored 10 points in the first as well to tie the game 10-10 heading into the second quarter.

Jordan Bennett led the Rebels in the second quarter with two, three-point buckets.

Johnson used his post moves for a two-point basket and Brady Martin converted two free throws to give the Rebels 10 points in the second quarter.

Cherokee Bluff was able to score 18 points in the second quarter to take a 28-20 lead over Fannin heading into the half.

The Rebels came out in the third quarter and put up 17 points. Twiggs led the Rebels with eight points on three, two-point buckets and two free throws.

Bennett was able to hit a three-point basket and two-point bucket for five points, while Johnson and Ingram scored two points each on a two-point basket.

Fannin outscored Cherokee Bluff 17-14 in the third as the Bears clinged to a 42-37 lead to start the fourth quarter.

The Rebels pushed the tempo in the fourth quarter as Twiggs scored six points on three, two-point buckets. Hyde scored four points on two, two-point buckets and Bennet was able to net a three-point bucket.

Johnson and Ingram scored a two-point bucket each to cap a 17 point third quarter.

The Bears were able to score19 points in the fourth as the Rebels fell 61-54 to the Bears.
