The Fannin County High School wrestling team hosted Banks County and Union County Friday, January 15, for Area 8AA Duals.
The Rebels faced off against Union County in the first match and were able to easily handle the Panthers 59-15 to advance to the finals against Banks County. The Rebels fought hard and fell short just five points as they lost 41-36. The solid evening from the Rebels was enough to give them the Area 8AA Dual Team Runner Up title. The Rebels improved this year as they finished in third for the Area Duals last year.
Head Wrestling Coach Chuck Patterson was proud of his team saying, “Our kids wrestled hard and with purpose, we had a few missing pieces and were not able to make up for it in the finals. We have a great group of kids who are all-in and hopefully we will be able to pull through this weekend and advance to the Elite Eight. I am really proud of our kids and their efforts especially amid all the stress and anxiety surrounding the pandemic.”
The Rebels will travel to Lovett High School in Atlanta, Georgia, Saturday, January 23, for a chance to advance to the Elite Eight.
