The Fannin County Rebels baseball team competed in Baseball at the Beach in Brunswick, Georgia, February 21-22. The Rebels faced off against the Evans County Knights Saturday, February 22.
Fannin County jumped out early on the Knights, but went cold in the middle innings as the Knights came back to top the Rebels 10-9.
Carson Beavers toed the rubber for the Rebels to start the game, pitching three and two thirds innings, striking out five batters.
Chance Stacy came on in relief, followed by Caleb Postell and Blake Rogers. Fannin batted in the top of the first inning as lead off Beavers slugged a double to left field. Beavers later scored on a Knights error to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead. Gabe Buchanan walked and was able to advance to third on a Blake Rogers double. Buchanan and Rogers went on to score on a passed ball to give the Rebels a 3-0 lead.
Evans was able to cross home plate in the bottom of the first as the Rebels led the Knights 3-1.
Brady Martin walked to pick up where the Rebels left off in the top of the second inning. With help from a Wyatt Rogers bunt, a Beavers hit and an Evans error, Martin went on to score. Jerritt Holloway slugged a single to load the bases for the Rebels. Wyatt Rogers went on to score with help from a sacrifice fly hit by Shirah. Beavers and Holloway were able to cross home plate from an Evans County error as the Rebels added four runs in the top of the second to take a 7-1 lead over the Knights.
Fannin held the Knights scoreless in the bottom of the second as the Rebels batted in the top of the third. Beavers singled and went on to score off of a Holloway ground ball to increase the Rebels lead 8-1. Evans County was able to score two runs in the bottom of the third to trim the lead 8-3. Fannin was met with some stout offense in the middle innings and were not able to cross home plate.
The Knights scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead as they led 10-8.
The Rebels tried to rally in the top of the seventh as Martin and Wyatt Rogers singled. Beavers singled to load the bases for the Rebels. Holloway then slugged a single to usher Martin in for a run and cut the lead 10-9.
The Rebels could not cross home plate again in the top of the seventh as the Rebels fell 10-9 to the Knights.
