The Fannin County Rebels basketball team traveled to North Murray High School to compete in the North Murray Christmas Tournament December 19-21. The Rebels started the tournament against McMinn County Thursday, December 19.
Fannin started out strong, but fell to the Cherokees 76-46. Kaeden Twiggs led the Rebels in the first quarter, scoring 10 points on five, two-point buckets. Miles Johnson worked the paint and churned out two points on a two-point bucket as well to give the Rebels a 12-point first quarter. McMinn County put up 20 points in the first for a 20-12 lead.
Fannin continued to find a rhythm offensively in the second as Cohutta Hyde netted five points on a two-point bucket and three free throws. Landon Norton scored a two-point bucket and two free throws, while Johnson scored a two-point bucket down low. Twiggs converted a free throw to cap a 12-point second quarter for the Rebels as they trailed McMinn County 41-24, after a 21-point McMinn County second quarter. The Rebels put up five points in the third quarter as Johnson netted two, two-point buckets and Hyde converted a free throw. McMinn County scored 15 points in the third quarter as the Cherokees led the Rebels 56-29 to start the fourth quarter.
Jordan Bennett tried to lead the Rebels in the fourth quarter, scoring eight points on two, three-point buckets and two free throws. Eli Brisbay-Cochran scored five points on a three ball and two-point basket, while Tucker Hanson netted a two-point bucket. Dylan Collins and Norton capped the fourth quarter scoring, converting a free throw each to give the Rebels a 17-point fourth quarter. The comeback was not enough however as the Rebels fell to McMinn County 76-46.
