Rebels fall to Greater Atlanta Christian

The Fannin County Lady Rebels basketball team faced off against region rival, the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans in front of a packed home crowd Friday, January 31. The  Lady Rebels were electric and emotional, as it was the last home game of the season. Fannin tried to claim a victory against the Lady Spartans, fighting hard and taking the game to the final minutes in the fourth, but GAC was able to squeak out a 66-53 win over the Lady Rebels.

Reagan York led the Lady Rebels in the first, scoring five points on two, two-point baskets and a free throw. Becca Ledford and Morgan Holt netted a two-point basket each, while Abby Ledford fought her way to the free throw stripe, converting two free throws to cap an 11-point first quarter for Fannin.

GAC scored 18 in the first to lead 18-11.

The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Spartans 9-8 in the second quarter, with Holt sinking a long range three ball, Saidee Collins and Natalie Thomas scored a two-point basket each, while York converted two free throws to slice into the Lady Spartans’ lead. At the half Fannin trailed 26-20.

Becca and Abby Ledford combined for eight points in the third, with Abby scoring two, two-point baskets and Becca converting two free throws as well as a two-point bucket. Collins and York worked the paint and churned out a two-point bucket each, while Thomas converted one free throw to cap a 14-point third quarter. GAC scored 18 points in the third to lead 44-34 to start the fourth.

Becca Ledford rallied the Lady Rebels in the fourth, cutting the GAC lead to four points with around five minutes to go in the game. She finished the fourth with six points on two, two-point baskets and two free throws, while Collins converted two, two-point baskets. Abby Ledford, Thomas and York scored a three-point bucket each in the fourth. GAC was able to get in a rhythm late in the fourth and went on to top the Lady Rebels 66-53.
