The Fannin County Rebels basketball team hosted the Union County Panthers Saturday, December 7. The Rebels fell behind early, but an explosive 19-point fourth quarter, gave the Rebels a 53-51 victory over the Panthers.
The Rebels scored nine points in the first quarter led by Brady Martin, who netted a three-point bucket. Andre Bivens, Kaeden Twiggs and Cohutta Hyde scored a two-point bucket each to cap the scoring in the first quarter.
Jalen Ingram played great defense in the first quarter and had a monster block off of the backboard. Union County was able to string together 13 points in the first for a 13-9 lead over Fannin.
The Rebels were able to score 10 points in the second quarter led by Hyde. Hyde scored eight points on three, two-point buckets and two free throws. Twiggs got a two-point bucket to fall as well. The Panthers put up 12 points in the second to take a 25-19 lead at the half.
The Rebels came out re-energized in the third quarter as Landon Norton sunk two, three-point buckets. Ingram worked the paint and scored two, two-point buckets inside and Jordan Bennett got a three ball to fall from deep. Twiggs scored a two-point bucket to give the Rebels 15 points in the third. Union County tallied 18 points to hold a 43-34 lead over the Rebels heading into the fourth quarter.
The Rebels rallied in the fourth, led by Norton, who scored nine points on two, three-point buckets, a two-point basket and a free throw.
Twiggs added eight points to his total on four, two-point buckets and Hyde got a two-point basket to fall for a 19-point fourth quarter.
Union put up eight points in the fourth as the Rebels came away with a 53-51 victory over the Panthers.
