Rebel baseball team celebrates

The Fannin County Rebels celebrated a great season of baseball at their May 16 banquet.

For the team’s many seniors, the banquet’s awards celebrated the end of a season with a 20-13 record and end in the Sweet 16.

On average, the whole team batted .318, struck out 227 batters, and had a team earned run average under three, coach Travis Stone said.

Several of the team’s players plan to play at the college level, he added.

“We’re real proud of them, and they’ve worked hard. and it’s paid off. That group of kids has been together for a long time, and they’ve brought it together this senior year,” said Kevin Davis, the father of team members Gavin Davis and Rylin Davis.

After a celebration banquet of barbecue, Stone gave out the awards.

Junior Varsity recognitions and Milestone recognitions went to Reid Holloway, Brody Burnette, Gavin Bradburn, Ethan Owensby, Alex McClure, Vaden Hoy, Liam Highly, Kyle Horn, Bryson Cole, Isaiah Stephens, Rylin Davis, Nate O’Neal, Brayden Walker and Reid Patterson.

Stephens, Rylin Davis, O’Neal, Walker, Patterson, Karson Brown, Reese Sisson, Eli Queen, Drew Barfield, Hudson York, Heath Bradburn, Tucker Dockery, Carson Callihan, Kaden Davis, Elijah Weaver, Colton Gray, Bristol Hughes, Mason McDaniel, Paul Stroemer Jr., Gavin Davis and team manager Brayden Whitener received varsity letters.

The American Baseball Coaches Association gave the Rebels an Academic Excellence award for having a GPA over 3.0.

Stone recognized the team members who helped contribute to this award.

Students with GPAs above 3.0 included Hoy, Brown, Callihan, Gavin Davis, Rylin Davis, Hughes, McDaniel, Patterson, Queen, Stephens, Walker, Weaver, Casen Bailey and Owensby.

Students with GPAs at 4.0 included Burnette, Gavin Bradburn, York, McClure, Heath Bradburn, O’Neal, Horn and Stroemer.

Stone also passed out several team awards. The Attitude award went to Patterson, Gray and Stroemer.

The Approach award went to Burnette, Weaver and Kaden Davis.

The Intensity award went to Stephens, Hughes and Gavin Davis.

The Toughness award went to Holloway, McDaniel and Dockery.

The Future Diamond Rebel award went to Bailey.

The Diamond Rebel award went to Callihan.

Players Weaver, Gray, Stroemer and Callihan received All State recognition.

Players McDaniel, York, Gray, Gavin Davis, Hughes, Stroemer and Weaver received All Region Recognition.

All Region Player of the Year went to Callihan.

Bailey received an honorable mention for All Region recognition.

Seniors Dockery, Callihan, Kaden Davis, Weaver, Gray, Hughes, McDaniel, Stroemer, Gavin Davis, and Whitener received senior recognition.

“The season may be over, but the friendships, the lessons and the grit you’ve developed will carry you through everything life throws at you,” Stone said of the team.
