Paskill signs to play at Point

Brody Paskill was celebrated for his accomplishments both on and off the football field Friday when he signed a Letter of Intent to play football for the Point University Skyhawks.

At the same time, he was praised by head football coach Chad Cheatham and Principal Scott Ramsey for also receiving an academic scholarship to the West Point, Georgia, school.

Paskill’s family, coaches, school administrators and members of the Rebels football team gathered in the high school cafeteria to witness the ceremonial letter signing.

Cheatham praised Paskill for his football success, but quickly looked to academics and the importance placed on that for all football  players.

He told the group that success in life will come from academics, joking with Paskill as to whether or not a career in the NFL is in his future.

Cheatham stressed to the players, “Without Brody’s academic success, this (his college opportunity) would not be the case.”

The coach described Paskill as among, “These are the buys that help you win championships.”

Cheatham talked of Paskill’s work ethic, how he never missed a practice, a workout, anything. Yet he had to wait, and wait. “When his time came, he took advantage of it,” Cheatham said.

Ramsey said, talking about Paskill’s work ethic on and off the field, “he’s the complete picture.” The FCHS senior is proof that if  “you want it bad enough, you can make it happen.”

Ramsey also said Paskill’s success is a “testament” to him and to the support he has received from teachers, administrators, coaches and fellow players.

Paskill’s mother, Catrina McQuigg, thanked everyone at the school, the same ones mentioned by Ramsey, because they “took him in as family.”

Paskill is the ninth Rebel football player in six years to sign a Letter of Intent to play football after high school.
