Student athletes from Fannin County High School traveled to Jefferson County in Louisville, Georgia, Saturday, March 13, to compete in the state weightlifting competition.
The Rebels had eight participants compete in various weight categories, and four of those eight finished in the top five in the state in their respective weight classifications.
Senior Micah O’Neal had a monster day for the Rebels, as he won the AA state championship in the 225-pound weight division, lifting a grand total of 640 pounds. His total weight lifted was the most of any participant in all classifications in the 225-pound classification in the state of Georgia.
Sophomore Drake Cantrell placed fifth in AA in the 140-pound and under classification, and senior Austin Belyeu finished third in his classification, the 151-160-pound class. Junior Ricardo Arellanes came in fourth in the 191-205-pound category. Junior Scott Pulliam, sophomore Andrew Waldrep, junior Isaac Davis, and another sophomore, Levi Cochran, all had great days as well competing for Fannin County.
