Norton’s 19 points not enough

The Fannin County Rebel basketball team erupted for a 28-point fourth quarter Saturday, December 4, when they traveled to Murphy to take on the Bulldogs. The solid effort was not enough, however, as the Rebels fell to Murphy 69-52.

Bryson Wright led the Rebels in the first quarter, netting four points on a three ball and a free throw. Landon Norton and Riley Angel combined for six points as Norton drained a three from deep and Angel rattled in a two-point basket and a free throw. Kaleb Green capped the scoring in the first as he fought his way to the free throw stripe, converting one free throw to give Fannin 11 points.

Murphy netted 15 points in the first to lead 15-11. Fannin’s offense slowed down in the second, as the Rebels scored seven points. Will Jones and Norton combined for six points as Jones made a two-point basket and a free throw, while Norton converted three free throws at the line. Lucas Hanson also converted a free throw as well. The Bulldogs scored 17 points in the second as they led 32-18 at halftime.

Fannin scored six points in the third quarter, as Jordan Bennett scored four points in a two-point basket and two free throws. Angel muscled in a two-point basket in the paint to cap the third quarter scoring for Fannin. Murphy scored 13 points in the third as they held a 45-24 lead.

Both teams’ offense exploded in the fourth quarter as they combined for 52 points.

Norton led the Rebels as he was red hot, scoring 13 points in three, three-point baskets and two, two-point buckets. Chasen Ethington found the bottom of the net on a long range three ball, and converted two free throws, while Jones got two, two-point baskets to fall. Bennett had four points in the fourth on a two-point basket and two free throws, while Ben Bloch muscled in a two-point basket to cap the scoring for Fannin. Murphy was able to match the Rebels offensive output, scoring 24 points and holding their lead as the Rebels fell 69-52.
