The Fannin County Rebels basketball team extended their win streak to two Tuesday, January 26, as they defeated the Gordon Central Warriors 63-57.
The Rebels fell behind in the first quarter as the Warriors outscored the Rebels 14-12. Nick Arp led Fannin as he worked the paint for two, two-point baskets. Landon Norton netted a long-range three ball, while Kaeden Twiggs got a tough two-point basket to drop and converted a free throw. Tucker Hanson rattled in a two-point basket as the Rebels trailed the Warriors 14-12 to start the second.
The Rebels heated up in the second quarter as Jordan Bennett went on a six-point scoring tear, knocking in three, two-point baskets. Norton capitalized on a three ball and a two-point basket for five points, while Twiggs attacked the rim for a two-point bucket and a free throw. Dylan Collins and Arp combined for four points on a two-point basket each, while Hanson fought his way to the charity stripe, converting two free throws. Fannin County tallied 20 points in the second, outscoring the Warriors 20-14 and taking a 32-28 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was much like the second, as the Rebels outscored the Warriors 17-13. Norton led the Rebels with six points, coming off of two, long range three-point baskets. Hanson and Twiggs combined for eight points, scoring two, two-point baskets each. Andre Bivens rattled in a three-point basket as well as the Rebels headed to the fourth quarter with a 49-41 lead over the Warriors.
Gordon Central tried to battle back in the fourth, outscoring the Rebels 16-14. For the Rebels, it was free throws that put the game away as Norton scored five points on a two-point bucket and three free throws. Hanson netted a three ball and converted a free throw, followed by a two-point basket from Twiggs and Arp. Bennett converted a free throw to cap the fourth quarter scoring for the Rebels as they were able to hold off the Warriors for a 63-57 win.
