Win: Lady Rebels defeat Basin

Fannin County and Copper Basin were close on the scoreboard during the first few trips up and down the court Friday night at the Copper Basin gym.

At the 4:20 mark in the first quarter, the hosts held a 4-2 lead. Fannin came back, and the game was tied 5-5 with 3:22 to go in the quarter.

But that changed when Reese Lewis took control for 11 first quarter points for Fannin’s Lady Rebels while also dominating the boards.

Meanwhile, Basin’s Lady Cougars scored as many points from the charity stripe as they did from the floor. Cora Kimsey led Basin’s attack with two points from the floor and a pair of free throws.

At the first buzzer, Fannin had pulled ahead to a 19-8 advantage over the Lady Cougars.

Fannin added to their leading in the second stanza, outscoring Basin 14-11. It was six points from Maggie Ledford that led the Lady Rebels’ offense, while Kendra Deal’s four points led Copper Basin.

The two teams went point-for-point in the third period, each adding 11 to their side of the scoreboard.

Ledford again led the Lady Rebels’ scoring, this time with four points. On the opposite end of the court, Kloie Ballew and Zoe Green each had four Lady Cougar points. At the buzzer, Fannin sat atop a 44-30 advantage.

Copper Basin couldn’t slow down Lewis in the final eight minutes as the Lady Rebel junior scored six points to end the game with 21.

Green added two points to her night’s total to lead Coper Basin with 10 as the Lady Rebels outscored Basin 17-6 to take home a 61-36 win.

As a unit, Fannin controlled the paint, grabbing 30 rebounds, Lewis leading with seven.

The Lady Rebels also passed the ball well with 13 assists on 19 made baskets. Izzie Jabaley led the team with six assists. The Lady Rebels accumulated 11 steals with Saidee Patton leading with three on her own.

Maggie Ledford scored 18 points to be close behind Lewis’ game leading 21-point total. Emma Buchanan added eight points, Jabaley scored six points and Patton, Toccoa Hampton, Emma Holloway and Albany Cole all had two points to contribute to the Lady Rebel total.

Leading Copper Basin’s game behind Green were Kimsey with eight points, Ballew with seven, Alexis Hyatt with six and Deal with five points.
