Lady Rebels XC team takes title at sectional

The boys and girls Cross Country (XC) teams from Fannin County have both earned the right to compete in the Georgia High School Association State Championships.

The girls team came away from the Sectional meet Saturday at Lamar Murphy Park in Jefferson, Georgia, as the Region Champion, and the boys team secured the Region Runner-Up spot.

The Sectional meet featured all teams from regions 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Lindsey Holloway continued to set the pace for Fannin County with a time of 19:16 to take the Region Championship. Right on her heels was Karli Sams who claimed the Region Runner-Up spot with a time of 20:39.

The girls team made up of Lindsey Holloway, Karli Sams, Lila Borum, Kensley Pickelsimer, Lana Hicks, Sydney Ford, Annaleigh Cheatham, and Claire Saxon came in second in the entire Sectional meet.

Fannin County girls finishing in the top 20 in the entire Sectional meet were Holloway, first; Sams, fourth; Borum, 14th; and Pickelsimer, 15th.

The boys team made up of Rylin Davis, Austin Prieto, Hudson Lynch, Joe DiBenedetto, Gage Bryan, Gavin Davis, Henry Schueneman, Brady Smith, Aiden Jones, Brodey Angel, and Matthew Ponton came in fifth in the entire Sectional meet.

Davis was the top finisher in the group with a 20th place finish.

The state championship meet is scheduled November 8 in Carrollton, Georgia.
