Lady Rebels win ETC Tip Off Tournament

The Fannin County Lady Rebel basketball team was able to fend off the Pickens County Dragonettes for the ETC Tip-Off Tournament title Tuesday, November 23. Both teams went into the game undefeated, but it was the Lady Rebels who clung to a 42-39 lead when the buzzer sounded as Fannin was crowned the Tip Off Tournament champion.

The first quarter was a stalemate as both teams tallied eight points. Becca Ledford led Fannin with five points on a long-range three-point basket and a two-point bucket.

Courtney Davis found the bottom of the net beyond the arc to cap the first quarter scoring for the Lady Rebels. The score was 8-8 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Rebels heated up in the second quarter, as Ellie Cook erupted for nine points on two three-point baskets, a two-point basket and a free throw. Reigan O’Neal and Davis hit a three point bucket each to cap a 15 point second quarter for Fannin.

Pickens County netted seven points in the second quarter as the Lady Rebels led 23-15 at halftime.

Pickens tried to mount a comeback in the second half, as they outscored the Lady Rebels 13-11 in the third. Davis led Fannin with five points in the quarter on a long-range three ball and two-point basket.

Reagan York dead-eyed a three-point basket, and O’Neal tallied three points on a two-point basket and free throw.

Fannin led 34-28 to start the fourth quarter. The Dragonettes outscored the Lady Rebels 11-8 in the fourth as Pickens started heating up late.

York was the steady hand for the Lady Rebels in the quarter, working the paint for four points on two, two-point baskets. O’Neal netted a two-point bucket, while Davis and Ledford converted a free throw each.

The Lady Rebels were able to weather the storm from Pickens as the Lady Rebels came away with the 42-39 win.
