The Fannin County Lady Rebels traveled to Hiwassee Dam, North Carolina Friday, January 3, to take on the Lady Eagles.
Fannin started strong and never looked back as they topped the Lady Eagles 58-44. Abby Ledford led the Lady Rebels in the first quarter, scoring five points on a two-point basket and a three ball. Becca Ledford netted a three ball, while Olivia Sisson and Morgan Holt scored a two-point bucket each. The Lady Eagles scored 15 points in the first to lead the Lady Rebels 15-12.
Fannin clamped down on defense in the second quarter, holding Hiwassee Dam to nine points. The Lady Rebels scored 16 points in the second led by Abby Ledford, who knocked in a long range three ball, two-point basket and a free throw. Holt rattled in two, two-point buckets and Mackenzie Johnson scored a two-point basket.
Sisson converted two free throws, while Natalie Thomas and Saidee Collins converted one each. The second quarter play by the Lady Rebels was enough to give Fannin a 28-24 lead heading into halftime.
The Lady Rebels started the third quarter like they finished the second, with strong defense and powerful offense. Becca Ledford scored three, three-point baskets, while Holt scored two, two-point buckets and two free throws. Johnson netted three points on a two-point bucket and a free throw and Sisson churned out a two-point basket down low to cap a 17-point third quarter for Fannin.
The Lady Rebels held the Lady Eagles to eight points in the third as Fannin increased their lead 45-32 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Rebels scored 13 points in the fourth, with Holt leading the way with five points on two, two-point buckets and two free throws. Paige Foresman sank a three ball, while Saidee Collins scored on a two-point bucket and Jenna Young converted two free throws.
Hiwassee Dam tallied 12 points in the fourth, but it was not enough as the Lady Rebels won 58-44.
