The Fannin County Lady Rebels faced off against the Pickens County Dragonettes Monday, November 25, in the second round of the ETC Classic basketball tournament.
The Lady Rebels, who are undefeated this year, did a great job defending their home court as an explosive second half gave them an 80-73 victory over Pickens County.
The dynamic duo of Morgan Holt and Abby Ledford combined for 16 points in the first quarter as Holt scored nine points on a smooth three-point bucket and three, two-point baskets in the paint.
Ledford scored on a three ball and was able to get two, two-point buckets to fall. Olivia Sisson had a monster block in the first as well. The Dragonettes put up 16 points in the first quarter to tie the game 16-16.
Pickens County caught fire in the second quarter, scoring 26 points. The Lady Rebels did not lay down though, as Holt scored eight points on a two-point basket and six free throws.
Abby Ledford scored long range three pointer and netted a two-point basket for five points, while Sisson worked the paint and scraped up some offensive rebounds, as well as score three points on a two-point bucket and a free throw.
Saidee Collins capped the Lady Rebels second quarter scoring by converting one free throw to give Fannin 16 points in the second. At the half the Lady Rebels trailed Pickens 42-33.
Fannin came out in the third quarter re-energized and heated up quickly. Abby Ledford exploded for nine points on a three ball and three, two-point baskets. Holt had five points in the third coming off of a three-point bucket and two-point basket, while Collins got a two-point shot to fall and converted two free throws.
Becca Ledford, Mackenzie Johnson, Regan York and Sisson scored a two-point bucket each and Jenna Young converted a free throw at the line to give the Lady Rebels a 30-point third quarter and a 63-55 lead over Pickens to start the fourth.
Fannin County continued their hot hand in the fourth quarter with York working the paint for eight points on two, two-point buckets and four free throws. Abby Ledford drained a three ball from deep and Holt churned out three points on a two-point bucket and free throw.
Sisson rattled in a two-point bucket and Johnson converted a free throw for a 17-point fourth quarter.
The second half effort from the Lady Rebels was enough to hold off the Dragonettes as Fannin remains undefeated.
