Lady Rebels team loses battle with Towns County

The Fannin County Lady Rebel softball team started the 2020 season Monday, August 17, by traveling to Towns County to take on the Lady Indians. The Lady Rebels fell behind in the first inning, but were able to battle back in the top of the third to take a 3-2 lead. Towns County was able to string together five runs in the later innings however, to claim a 7-3 win over Fannin County.

Jayden Bailey started in the circle for Fannin, pitching four and a third innings, sitting down one batter. Jadeyn Holloway, Jaylen Green and Payton Bearden all came on in relief.

The Lady Rebels batted in the top of the first, but were unable to cross home plate. The Lady Indians were able to score two runs in the bottom of the first, until Bailey collected two outs and Holloway got the third out to get Fannin off of the field.

Neither team crossed home plate in the second inning as the Lady Rebels batted in the top of the third. Bailey led off for Fannin and singled. Bearden and Green also singled to load the bases for the Lady Rebels. Bailey was able to steal home, and Bearden was knocked in by an Emma Mitchell single to tie the game up at 2-2. Zoe Putnam singled and Green was able to come home to give Fannin a 3-2 lead.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the fourth when the Indians were up to bat.

Towns County crossed home plate twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth. The Lady Rebels could not cross home plate again in the game as Towns County won 7-3.
