The Fannin County Lady Rebel basketball team started their 2020-2021 basketball season at the ETC Tip-Off Tournament Saturday, November 21, against Pickens County.
The Lady Rebels started out strong, took the lead after halftime, kept it, winning the game 65-56.
Both teams started out hot in the first quarter, as Olivia Sisson led the Lady Rebels with six points coming off of two, two-point baskets and two free throws. Reagan York stepped up as well, scoring five points on a three-point bucket and a two-point basket. Abby Ledford also wrote her name in the scorebook with a two, two-point buckets and Becca Ledford fought her way to the stripe to convert two free throws for a 17-point first quarter. The Lady Dragonettes were on the Lady Rebels heels, however, as they scored 16 points in the first to trail Fannin 17-16.
Pickens buckled down in the second quarter, outscoring Fannin 11-8. Becca Ledford had four points on two, two-point buckets, while Prisila Bautista and Sisson scored a two-point basket each. Pickens was able to reclaim the lead in the 27-25 at the half.
Abby Ledford caught fire in the second half as the senior had seven points on a three ball and two, two-point baskets in the third quarter alone. Becca Ledford had five points as well on a two-point basket and three free throws.
Bautista and York scored three points each, with Bautista knocking in a three ball and York muscling in a two-point basket and a free throw to cap a 20-point third quarter for the Lady Rebels. Fannin and Pickens went back and forth the whole third quarter, but the Lady Rebels were able to pick up a 45-37 lead to start the fourth quarter.
Fannin never cooled off as Abby Ledford scored 11-points off of four, two-point baskets and three free throws. York scored six points on two, two-point baskets and two free throws, while Natalie Thomas rattled in a three ball to cap a 20-point fourth quarter. Pickens was able to score 19 points in the fourth as Fannin held off the Dragonettes for a 65-56 win.
