Lady Rebels soccer team earns spot in Sweet 16

 

The Fannin County Lady Rebels soccer team advanced to the Sweet 16 round in the 2024 Georgia State Soccer Championships with a win over North Cobb Christian.

Fannin County hosted the Lady Eagles Thursday with the winner earning the right to advance in post season play.

Fannin County’s offense poured in three goals in the first half to take a comfortable 3-0 at the horn. Stephanie Kirk scored the first goal, then scored the second on an assist by Jordan Golden. Annaleigh Cheatham put the third goal in the net with an assist by Kensley Pickelsimer.

The Lady Eagles fought back, keeping the ball in Fannin’s end of the field and closing the margin to 3-2.

Kirk would add Fannin’s final goal on an assist by Cheatham.

The Lady Eagles scored one final goal in the 4-2 decision.

Emma Richardson and Reese Lewis led Fannin County with 17 steals each. Avi Ethington was right behind with 16 steals.

The Lady Rebels will play the Fellowship Christian Paladins Thursday. The time and location were still to be determined Monday morning.

The Paladins will bring a 9-3-2 record into the match.

The Lady Rebels’ season record now stands at 12-5 with a 10-2 mark in the region, both those losses coming to Model.

Coach Nancy Jessen said, “The team has come a long way this season. They have worked hard and improved their performance collectively as a team at each game. I am so proud of how they played throughout the whole season and especially in our playoff game against North Cobb Christian.”
