Lady Rebels soccer beats Murray

The Fannin County Lady Rebels kicked off their season Tuesday, February 4, with a home game against the Murray County Lady Indians. The Lady Rebels battled on the slippery wet field, making Fannin adjust their game plan and touches.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Rebels found their rhythm and were able to score three goals in the second half to start the season off with a 3-0 victory.

Sydnie Jones was able to score the first goal for Fannin, taking a shot around the 18 yard box.

Jones also collected an assist from a pass to Anabel Lillard, who scored the second goal of the game to give the Lady Rebels a 2-0 lead.

Ana Arvidson was able to knock in a third goal as she dribbled past defenders for a one on one with the goalkeeper, to seal the game and give Fannin a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Rebels offense was aggressive, with Ashley Frye, Taylor Poland, Sarah Sosebee, along with Arvidson, Jones and Lillard all taking shots at the goal.

Goalkeeper Rachael Jessen played a big part in the win as well, taking the momentum away from Murray County with a save.

Lady Rebels soccer head coach Nancy Jessen was proud of her team, saying, “All team members worked together for the win. In the first half, we had possession on the ball for the majority of the half, but despite efforts we unfortunately could not finish. We met during halftime, identifying what we as a team needed to improve on for the second half. The girls took the field and pulled it together to earn the win.”

Jessen also noted that the great effort from Isabella Tocci, Lyndsay Turner, Rose Ballew, and Alyssa Goodwin helped lead the Lady Rebels to the victory.
