The Fannin County Lady Rebels traveled to East Hall Monday, February 10, for a basketball battle with the Dawson County Lady Tigers to determine the third and fourth place winners of the Region 7AAA basketball tournament.
The Lady Rebels played well from start to finish and were able to hold off the Lady Tigers for a 54-42 win and third place finish.
Fannin County exploded for 19 points in the first quarter with Becca Ledford scoring six points in two, two-point buckets and four free throws. Mackenzie Johnson netted a three ball, while Olivia Sisson, Natalie Thomas and Abby Ledford scored a two-point bucket each. Saidee Collins converted two free throws to cap the Lady Rebels first quarter scoring, while Fannin’s defense held Dawson to seven points for a 19-7 lead.
Thomas led the Lady Rebels in the second, finding the bottom of the net on two, three-point baskets. Collins worked the paint for two, two-point baskets and Becca Ledford scored a two-point basket for a 12-point second quarter. Dawson scored 15 points in the second to cut into the Lady Rebels’ lead 31-22 at halftime.
Fannin County scored six points in the third quarter, with Abby Ledford scoring two, two-point baskets and Johnson netting a two-point bucket. Dawson County scored nine points in the third quarter as the Lady Rebels led the Lady Tigers 31-29.
Fannin buckled down in the fourth, scoring 17 points led by Johnson and Collins. Collins tallied five points on two, two-point baskets and a free throw, while Johnson netted five points on three free throws and a two-point bucket.
Becca Ledford got a two-point jumpshot to fall and converted two free throws, while Sisson converted two free throws and Abby Ledford converted one.
The Lady Tigers scored 11 points in the fourth, as the Lady Rebels bested Dawson for a third place win in the regional tournament. The Lady Rebels now set their sights on the state tournament.
