Lady Rebels offense overpowers North Murray

The Fannin County Lady Rebels basketball team traveled to North Murray High School to compete in the North Murray Christmas Tournament December 19-21.

After a 67-63 loss to McMinn Thursday, December 19, the Lady Rebels played North Murray Friday, December 20.

Fannin found themselves in a close game, but were able to overcome the Lady Mountaineers with great defensive play, winning 44-40.

Abby Ledford and Morgan Holt combined for six points in the first quarter, scoring a three-point bucket each.

Saidee Collins and Reagan York scored a two-point bucket each and Natalie Thomas capped the first quarter scoring with a free throw.

Fannin outscored North Murray by one point in the first to claim a 11-10 lead.

The Lady Rebels spread the scoring out in the second, with Becca Ledford, Abby Ledford, Collins, Holt and York scoring a two-point bucket each.

Fannin County held the Lady Mountaineers to eight points in the second to take a 21-18 lead at the half.

The Lady Rebels continued the hot hand in the third as Abby Ledford netted five points on a three ball and two-point bucket. Holt scored on a long range three-point bucket and York got a two-point bucket to go for a 10-point third quarter. Fannin County held North Murray to six points in the third as the Lady Rebels increased their lead 31-24 heading into the fourth quarter.

Fannin County did not slow down in the fourth as Abby Ledford and Holt combined for 10 points, with Ledford sinking a three ball and a two-point bucket and Holt nailed a three-point basket and two free throws.

Becca Ledford fought her way to the free throw stripe as well, converting three free throws for a 13-point fourth quarter.

North Murray tried to make a comeback, scoring 16 points in the fourth, but the Lady Rebels were able to hold them off and come away with a hard fought 44-40 win.
