Lady Rebels lose hard fought battle to Chestatee War Eagles

The Fannin County Lady Rebels softball team traveled to Chestatee Monday, August 31, to take on the War Eagles.

The Lady Rebels jumped out to lead the game in the early innings, but a late inning comeback from Chestatee hindered Fannin as they fell to the War Eagles 10-9.

Jayden Bailey started on in the circle for the Lady Rebels and threw six innings, striking out three batters.

Fannin County batted in the top of the first inning as Payton Bearden led off and singled on a bunt. Zoe Putnam walked and Riley Davis collected an RBI as Bearden scored on a ground out to give the Lady Rebels a 1-0 lead.

Emma Mitchell got an RBI as well as she knocked in Putnam on a ground out to give the Lady Rebels a 2-0 lead before the War Eagles could get the third out.

Chestatee answered quickly on offense, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Rebels were able to stop the bleeding with Jaylin Ray catching a pop fly, and a Bailey strikeout to get the Lady Rebels off the field with the game tied 2-2.

Fannin continued their rhythm on offense as Jadeyn Holloway singled. Bailey was able to lay down a bunt that brought Holloway home to give the Lady Rebels the lead. Bearden hit an RBI to bring Bailey in as Fannin increased their lead 4-2 before Chestatee got off the field.

Holloway, Jaylen Green and Davis got three quick outs in the bottom of the second and kept the War Eagles from crossing home plate to lead 4-2.

The Lady Rebels were able to add a run to their total in the top of the third as Mitchell doubled and Chelsey Frye singled to put Fannin runners on the corners. Ray knocked Mitchell in on an RBI to extend the Lady Rebels lead 5-2. Fannin held Chestatee scoreless in the bottom of the third as they led 5-2 at the end of the third.

Fannin was able to add two runs in the top of the fourth as Holloway and Bailey walked. Davis slugged a double to center field to bring both Holloway and Bailey home for a 7-2 lead over Chestatee.

The War Eagles found a rhythm in the bottom of the fourth and were able to cross home plate three times to trim the Lady Rebels lead 7-5.

Fannin did not give up, as the bats heated up in the top of the fifth. Frye, Ray and Green singled to load the bases for Fannin. Courtesy runner Maci Kendall stole home to increase the Lady Rebels lead 8-5 before Chestatee got off the field.

The War Eagles erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 9-8 lead over Fannin.

Mitchell was able to keep the Lady Rebels in it in the top of the sixth, as she slammed a homerun to tie the game 9-9.

Fannin held the War Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, and Chestatee held the Lady Rebels scoreless in the top of the seventh. The War Eagles managed to score one run in the bottom of the seventh to give them the lead and victory as they won 10-9.
