The Fannin County Lady Rebels basketball team hosted the Murphy Lady Bulldogs for a preseason scrimmage game Thursday, November 14. The Lady Rebels flashed on both sides of the ball, but it was Murphy who came away with a 54-48 win.
Natalie Thomas led the Lady Rebels in points in the first quarter, as she drained a three from the corner. Abby Ledford was able to make two free throws and Becca Ledford made two free throws to give the Lady Rebels seven total points in the first. Murphy was able to score 11 points for a 11-7 lead.
The Lady Rebels found a groove on offense in the second quarter, led by Morgan Holt, who scored nine points on three, two-point baskets and three free throws.
Abby Ledford scored four points in the second quarter off of a two-point bucket and two free throws. Jenna Young converted a free throw as well to give the Lady Rebels 14 points in the second.
Murphy put up 18 points in the second quarter to take a 29-21 lead at halftime. The Lady Rebels came out cold in the third as Holt was the lone Lady Rebel scorer.
Holt netted a two-point basket and converted two free throws to give the Lady Rebels four points. The Lady Bulldogs put up 12 points in the third to take a 41-25 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Rebels exploded in the fourth quarter led by speedy guard Becca Ledford. Ledford scored 12 points off of two, two-point baskets, a three pointer and five free throws.
Abby Ledford added seven points to her totals in the fourth, sinking two, three pointers and converting a free throw.
Young and Mackenzie Johnsonscored two points each, with Young making two free throws and Johnson sinking a two-point bucket.
The Lady Rebels tallied 23 points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to mount the comeback as Murphy won the game 54-48.
