The Fannin County High School Lady Rebel softball team came away with a gritty 3-2 win Wednesday, September 8, when they hosted region rival the Coosa Lady Eagles.
Fannin fell behind 2-0 early, but a big third inning gave Fannin a 3-2 lead.
Natalie Herendon got the nod for pitching duties in the game, pitching all seven innings and striking out seven Lady Eagles.
The Lady Rebels out-hit Coosa 4-2 in the game as Riley Davis, Zoe Putnam, Herendon and Jayden Bailey got one hit each.
Coosa struck first as they scored a quick two runs in the top of the first inning.
The Lady Eagles clung to a 2-0 lead for the rest of the first inning, as well as the second inning as neither team scored.
Fannin held Coosa scoreless in the top of the third inning as the Lady Rebels batted in the bottom of the third.
Chelsey Frye led off for Fannin and walked, while Kharcee Hughes came on as a courtesy runner for Frye, and was pushed to second base with help from a Bailey single.
Davis crushed a double on the next at bat to bring Hughes in for a run, and Putnam dinged a single to bring Bailey home and put Davis at third base.
Davis later reached home with help from a Coosa error to give Fannin the go-ahead run as they led Coosa 3-2 at the end of the third inning.
Fannin and Coosa battled for four more innings with neither team being able to notch another run.
Herendon got the final out of the game in the top of the seventh on a strike-out to seal the game for the Lady Rebels as they came away with a 3-2 win.
The Lady Rebels are now 2-1 in region play and 4-2 on the season.
