Lady Rebels fall to Union County, now 3-1 on season

The Fannin County Lady Rebel softball team fell behind early and could not recover when they hosted the Union County Lady Panthers Thursday, September 2.

The Lady Rebels fell to the Lady Panthers 9-1, with Union getting the bulk of their runs in the seventh inning. Josilynn Newton started in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Rebels, throwing six innings and striking out four Lady Panthers. Natalie Herendon came on in relief, throwing one inning and striking out one batter.

Chelsey Frye, Herendon and Callie Ensley had one hit each in the game.

Union County batted in the top of the first and was able to score two runs before the Lady Rebels could get off the field.

Fannin could not cross home plate in the bottom of the first as Union County led 2-0. Neither team scored in the second inning, as the Lady Panthers crossed home plate one time in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Rebels could not generate any offense in the bottom of the third, and neither team scored in the fourth inning as the Lady Panthers held a 3-0 lead to start the fifth inning.

Union County was able to add one run in the top of the fifth, but the Lady Rebels erased the run in the bottom of the fifth as Ensley singled and Aaleyah Rogers got on base and later scored with help from a Frye double to put the Lady Rebels on the board. The score remained 4-1 after a scoreless sixth inning.

Union County got into a rhythm in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs to increase their score to nine. Fannin County could not cross home plate in the bottom of the seventh as they fell to the Lady Panthers 9-1.

The Lady Rebels are now 3-1 on the season.
