The Fannin County softball team hosted the Greater Atlanta Christian Lady Spartans Thursday, September 5, for a region matchup.
GAC jumped out to an early lead in the game and the Lady Rebels could not recover as the Lady Rebels fell to GAC 10-1. Josilynn Newton started in the circle for Fannin, pitching two and two thirds innings and striking out two batters.
Kaelyn Hensley came on in relief, pitching four and a third innings and sitting down one Lady Spartan.
Eryn Mealer led the Lady Rebels at the plate with two hits in three plate appearances.
Hensley and Kayleigh Russell collected on hit each on the evening.
The Lady Spartans batted in the top of the first and were able to cross home plate two times before a Newton strikeout, Russell fielder’s choice and a Hensley ground out got the Lady Rebels off of the field. Fannin was not able to generate any runs in the bottom of the first inning as GAC led 2-0.
Fannin was unable to score until the bottom of the sixth inning, while GAC scored three runs in the second, one run in the third and one run in the top of the sixth to take a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Russell singled to energize the Lady Rebel dugout. Mealer later dinged a double knock Russell in for a run.
The Lady Rebels were unable to cross home plate again as the Lady Spartans led 7-1.
GAC was able to score three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 10-1 lead.
The Lady Rebels could not come back in the bottom of the seventh as the Lady Spartans came away with the region victory.
