Lady Cougars win catfight against Polk

The Copper basin Lady Cougars hosted their county rival the Polk County Lady Cats Tuesday, March 10.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to an early lead and were able to hold off the Lady Cats for a big 7-3 win. Regan Holder toed the rubber for the Lady Cougars, pitching three and two thirds innings and sitting down two batters.

Destiny Pittman and Kaitlyn Goode came on in relief with the duo combining for one strike-out.

Polk County batted in the top of the first inning and were unable to score thanks to a Holder strike-out and two fly outs by Riley Smith.

Lead off Sydney Hickey singled along with Goode to put Lady Cougar runners on first and second. Smith slugged a ball to right field to bring both Hickey and Goode across home plate for two runs.

Smith advanced to third base on a Sapporiah Ross hit and a Polk County error. Smith was later hit in by a Raegan Higdon single.

Ross and Higdon was able to cross home plate thanks to a Bailey Mundy triple to give the Lady Cougars a 5-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

After a scoreless second inning Polk County batted in the top of the third inning and was able to cross home plate once before the Lady Cougars could get off the field.

Holder started the Lady Cougars off in the bottom of the third with a single. Holder was later knocked in by a Pittman single to increase the Lady Cougars 6-1 at the end of the third inning. Polk County sliced into the Lady Cougar lead in the top of the fourth as they scored two runs.

Copper Basin could not score in the bottom of the fourth as they led 6-3.

The Lady Cougars held the Lady Cats scoreless in the top of the fifth to get off the field. Ross drilled a home run right down center field to give the Lady Cougars a score.

The Lady Cougars kept Polk County from crossing home plate the remainder of the game as they came away with a 7-3 victory.
