The Copper Basin Lady Cougars battled the Pickens County Dragonettes Monday, November 22, and Gilmer County Tuesday, November 23.
The Lady Cougars fought hard in both games, but ended up falling to the Dragonettes 62-19, and the Lady Cats 54-27.
Against the Dragonettes the Lady Cougars netted eight points in the first quarter as Taylee Hall nailed a three-point basket. Destiny Pittman and Riley Hall combined for four points, scoring a two-point basket each.
Sapporiah Ross fought her way to the free throw stripe where she converted a free throw to cap the first quarter scoring for Copper Basin.
Pickens put up 15 points in the first to lead the Lady Cougars 15-8. Gilmer tightened up their defense in the second quarter as Sydney Hickey was the lone Lady Cougar to score, as she converted a free throw. The Dragonettes scored 20 points in the second quarter to lead Copper Basin 35-9 at halftime.
Hickey had the hot hand in the third, scoring six points on three, two-point baskets. Taylee Hall muscled in a two-point basket to give the Lady Cougars nine points. Pickens scored 17 points in the third to lead 52-17 heading into the fourth quarter.
Zoe Green finished off the scoring for Copper Basin, as she netted a two-point basket to give the Lady Cougars 19 total points.
Pickens County scored 10 points in the fourth as they topped the Lady Cougars 62-19.
After the game against Pickens, Copper Basin squared off against the Lady Cats of Gilmer County.
Gracie Smith led the Lady Cougars in the first quarter, scoring four points on a two-point bucket and two free throws. Gilmer County was able to net 18 points in the first to lead 18-4.
Green and Taylee Hall combined for four points in the second quarter, as they scored a two-point basket each. Riley Hall fought her way to the free throw stripe, where she converted a free throw to cap the second quarter scoring for the Lady Cougars. Gilmer tallied 10 points in the second to lead Copper Basin 28-9.
Hickey had a monster third quarter for the Lady Cougars, as the senior netted seven points on a deep three-point basket and four free throws. Tayle Hall converted two free throws and Riley Hall converted one free throw to give Copper Basin 10 points in the third quarter.
Gilmer scored 15 points in the third as the Lady Cougars trailed 43-19 to start the fourth quarter. Hickey led the Lady Cougars in the fourth, scoring four points on a three ball and a free throw. Summer Montgomery found the bottom of the net on a two-point bucket, while Smith rattled in two free throws for an eight point fourth quarter. Gilmer County scored 11 points in the fourth as they bested the Lady Cougars 54-27.
