The Copper Basin Lady Cougars paid a visit to long time rival Polk County Friday, April 26. Before the fans could even get in their seats, the ballgame was practically over. Copper Basin scored 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back, routing the Lady Wildcats 20-2 in four innings.
Riley Akens went 3-4 with four RBI’s and a triple to lead Copper Basin. Emily Mundy had a great day as well, going 2-4 with three RBI’s, while Maggie Scoggins was 3-3 and scored four runs.
Copper Basin scored 11 runs in the first inning, but Polk came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Cougars added another run in the top of the second inning to push the lead to 12-2 and the busted out the bats again in the top of the fourth inning, scoring eight more runs. Scoggins scored on a groundout and Angela Graves came home on a Claire Ledford single to make the score 15-2. Akens drove in Ledford and Samantha Ware had a two-run double, scoring Akens and Alexis Hyatt. Mundy finished off the scoring with another two-run double, driving in Ware and Scoggins to make the score 20-2.
Starting pitcher Caitlin Pack got the Lady Wildcats 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning, getting two groundouts and striking out the final batter to give Copper Basin a huge 20-2 win over the Lady Wildcats.
Ledford went 2-4 and scored twice, while Pack, Graves, and Hyatt all scored three runs apiece. Ware scored two runs and went 1-3 with two RBI’s. Copper Basin pounded out 13 hits in the ballgame, including three doubles and a triple.
Pack pitched four innings, striking out two Polk batters.
