The Copper Basin Lady Cougars tipped off their 2023-2024 season on the road, as they traveled to Hiawassee, Georgia, to take on Towns County Tuesday, November 14. Copper Basin hung tough, but the Lady Indians pulled away in the second half to earn a hard fought 55-47 win.
Sophomore Alexis Hyatt scored seven of her team-high 21 points in the first quarter as the two teams were tied 12-12 headed to the second quarter.
Towns County outscored the Lady Cougars 16-9 in the period, as sophomore Kendra Deal scored three points to lead Copper Basin. Senior Riley Hall, junior Zoe Green, and Hyatt scored two points each as the Lady Cougars trailed 28-21 at the half.
Hyatt scored five more points in the third quarter, including a three-pointer, but the Lady Indians increased their lead, outsourcing Basin 13-9 in the period.
In the fourth quarter, freshman Kloie Ballew popped in four points to go with seven more from Hyatt, as well as another three-ball from Deal and Riley Hall, but Towns hung on to the lead, and won by a score of 55-47.
