Lady Cougars fall to Polk

The Copper Basin Lady Cougars hosted in-county rival the Polk County Lady Cats Thursday, December 3. Polk County jumped out to an early lead, but the Lady Cougars started climbing back into the game in the later quarters. Polk County was able to hold on to win the game 54-23.

Polk County netted 18 points in the first as the Lady Cougars had a sluggish start on offense.

Sapporiah Ross was the lone Lady Cougar to score in the first, as she knocked in a two-point basket with about 10 seconds to go in the first quarter. Copper Basin trailed Polk 18-2 at the end of the first.

The Lady Cougars scored 10 points in the second quarter as Raegan Higdon started to heat up, scoring eight points on a three-point bucket, two, two-point baskets and a free throw.

Skyler Nipper made a two-point basket in the paint as well. Polk County continued their hot hand in the second, scoring 18 points to lead 36-12 at halftime.

Lany Jory led the Lady Cougars in the third, scoring three points on a two-point basket and a converted free throw. 

Nipper muscled in a two-point bucket from the post also, as the Lady Cougars put up five points in the third.

The Lady Cats netted nine points in the third as they led 45-17 to start the fourth.

Higdon once again led the Lady Cougars in scoring in the fourth quarter, as she tallied four points on a two-point basket and two free throws.

Ross rattled in a two-point basket to cap a six point fourth quarter for Copper Basin. Polk County scored nine points in the fourth to win the game 54-23.
