Lady Cougars fall in district

The Copper Basin Lady Cougars traveled to Chattanooga Tuesday, October 3, to start the District 4-A Volleyball Tournament at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences.

In the semi-finals, Copper Basin took on Chattanooga School of Liberal Arts. The Lady Eagles took the first set 25-19 and the second set was even tighter, with CSLA edging the Lady Cougars 25-21. With their backs to the wall, Copper Basin needed to win the third set to keep the match going, but the Lady Eagles won by a score of 25-15 to take the set and the match 3-0.

The Lady Cougars finished the season with a record of 9-8, finishing first in their sub-district and in third place in the district 4-A tournament. With lots of young talent returning, Copper Basin will look to build on the 2023 season and go even farther in 2024.

Senior Riley Hall had one ace, one kill, one block, six digs, and one assist to lead the Lady Cougars. Sophomore Peyton Grabowski had five kills, three blocks, and two points on placed tips. Senior Taylee Hall had one ace, one kill, five digs, and one point on placed tips. Leading in assists was senior Nicole Marrie with four and sophomore Kendra Deal with three.

. Lady Cougar Head Coach Anna West was pleased with the season overall and expressed her gratitude for the senior leadership in 2023.  “Overall, it was a good season! We had our highs and lows, but we hope to use everything we saw this season as a basis for improvement next year. We will definitely miss the talent and personality our five seniors brought to the team!?”
