Lady Cougars end season, look to 2025

The volleyball season for the Copper Basin Lady Cougars came to an end last week when the team advanced to semi-final action in district play but couldn’t make their way into the region tournament.

But it was not a gloom and doom ending for the young team. Head Coach Lindsey Hyatt said, “I am very pleased with this season as a first-year head coach and excited to built on it next year. We are returning five starters next season.

“We only lost to three teams this year, Hiwassee Dam, CSLA and CSAS. Our goal for next year will be to continue competing with these teams and hopefully be able to avenge our losses.”

Copper Basin wrapped up its season 11-9 overall and 3-4 in district play.

Alexis Hyatt, who will be one of the five returning starters next year, led the team in kills and left her mark in both digs and blocks. She posted 112 kills, 78 digs, and seven blocks.

Leading the team in digs was Riley Akens who, like Hyatt, is only a junior. She  had 114 digs on the season and was number two in kills with 55.

Kenzlie Ballew, a senior, led the team in blocks with eight. She also posted 33 kills.

Junior Cora Kimsey had 47 kills and six blocks.

Zoe Green, in her senior year, had 43 kills and 78 digs.

Among other Lady Cougars, Addison Hyatt, a freshman, had 76 digs and 15 kills, and junior Cora Ledford had 24 kills.
