Copper Basin’s Lady Cougar volleyball team started their postseason by hosting Tellico Plains Thursday, September 28, at Copper Basin High School. With the number one seed in the sub district on the line, the Lady Cougars left no doubt who that was going to be, by sweeping the Lady Bears in three straight sets to take the number one seed heading into next week’s district tournament.
The Lady Cougars took the first set by a score of 25-14, and never looked back, taking the second set by a score of 25-21. Looking to finish the match off quickly, Copper Basin won the third set in a close one, 25-23 to win the match and the number one seed.
Copper Basin will play the number two seed from the south sub district next Tuesday, October 3, at Chattanooga Arts and Sciences.
Senior Riley Hall had a stellar performance with five aces, six kills, one block, four digs, and one assist. Sophomore Peyton Grabowski also came out on fire, as she had six kills, four additional points on placed tips, two aces, four blocks, and one dig. Other key performances were sophomore Kendra Deal, who finished the night with five aces, seven digs, and five assists, while senior Nicole Marrie had two aces, and nine assists. Senior Taylee Hall had a good night as well, collecting two kills, five digs, and one assist.
Lady Cougar Head Coach Anna West was proud of her team, saying, “Possibly the best game I’ve seen in my seven years associated with Copper Basin volleyball. All 12 girls shared a common goal of winning this game, and it showed.”
