The Fannin County Lady Rebels junior varsity volleyball squad hosted the Copper Basin Cougars Thursday, September 10, for a best of three match.
Both teams played well, taking the game to three sets, but the Lady Cougars were able to battle back after losing the first set to win the game 2-1.
The Lady Rebels and Lady Cougars volleyed back and forth in the first set, but it was Fannin who was able to grind out a (25-23) win to take a 1-0 lead.
Clara Payne, Abby Vest, Kaite Thomasson, Katie Thurman and Alayna Dockery were big factors in the win.
The Lady Rebels held the lead late in the second set, thanks to Reagan O’Neil, Morgan Laracy, Ava Queen and Kati Craft, but Copper Basin played great defense with Destiny Pittman, Maddie Cribbs, Raegan Higdon, Nicole Marrie and Jolay Gourley stepping up.
The Lady Cougars came back to tie the game (23-23) and eventually, with help from Aaliyah Cochran, Makenna Miles, Sarah Collis, Sarah Johnson and Ally Foster, stole the second set (28-26) to even the series 1-1.
The third and final set went to 15. Copper Basin served first and was able to go on a four point tear to give them cushion.
Lady Rebels Dara Divita and Emmaline Cochran tried to rally the Lady Rebels, but Copper Basin was firing on all cylinders as Laura Chinell and Channing Beach gave the Lady Cougars a lift defensively to win the set (15-7) and beat the Lady Rebels 2-1.
