Jory seals Lady Cougar victory against McMinn

Laney Jory got a ground out to finish off the Lady Cougars’ game Monday, April 12, as Copper Basin topped McMinn Central 15-0.

The Lady Cougars out-hit the Lady Chargers 11-3 in the game, with Bailey Mundy, Sapporiah Ross and Haley Harper getting two hits each. Kaitlyn Goode, Allie Ballew, Destiny Pittman, Raegan Higdon and Lexi Jory got one hit each.

Pittman started the game pitching, throwing two innings and striking out one batter. Laney Jory came on in relief, pitching one inning and striking out one batter.

The Lady Cougars wasted no time offensively as Riley Smith was hit by a wild pitch, and Sydney Hickey walked to put runners on first and second for Copper Basin. Ross later nailed a single to bring Smith home, and Ballew dinged a ball to left field to bring Hickey in for a run. Laney Jory picked up an RBI as she hit Ross home to give the Lady Cougars a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Copper Basin held the Lady Chargers scoreless in the bottom of the first as they got off the field. Mundy was the first Lady Cougar to get on base as she singled to left field. Mundy later scored by stealing home. Hickey walked and with two outs, Goode and Ross singled to load the bases for Copper Basin. Ballew was hit by a wild pitch to bring Hickey in for the score, and Laney Jory walked to bring Goode home. Harper crushed a ball to bring Ross and Ballew home for two runs before McMinn Central could get off of the field. Copper Basin held the Lady Chargers scoreless in the bottom of the second as they led 8-0.

The Lady Cougars strung together seven runs in the top of the third inning as Mundy, Higdon, Megan Worthy, Pittman, Brintlie Beach, Jaden Womac and Lexi Jory crossed home plate to give the Lady Cougars a 15-0 lead.

McMinn Central could not generate any offense in the bottom of the third as the game was called, and Copper Basin left with a 15-0 victory.
