Fannin County High School Rebel football standout Jacob Dye has committed to further his athletic career and education with LaGrange College.
“It doesn’t just happen overnight,” Rebel head coach Chad Cheatham said of the opportunity to play the game at a college level.
Cheatham continued, “It takes from a desire to play the game at the next level to a parent and family unit that is there to support him and to help him through the things that he needs to do to get to where he needs to be.”
Dye was recognized in front of a cafeteria full of friends, teammates, family, coaches and teachers during a signing ceremony at Fannin County High School Monday, April 7.
In addition to being a competitive athlete, Dye also is a competitive student boasting a 3.97 grade point average.
“That is a difficult task,” Cheatham said. “So, as hard as he’s worked in the weight room and on the football field and on the practice field, he’s worked that hard in the classroom also.”
Principal Dr. Scott Ramsey and Athletic Director Jeremy King echoed Cheatham in the discipline it requires to play at the next level.
“I’ve said it before, but once a Rebel always a Rebel. ... We will always be behind you,” King said. “Let this be, kind of, that example for you younger guys of what to strive for. Not just on the field or in the classroom, but the type of person that he is.”
As part of the history-making 2024 Rebel football team’s season, Dye had been previously recognized for making 16 pancakes during the season.
