The Copper Basin Lady Cougars finally came home to play after a five-game road trip. One thing didn’t change however, and that was the hot bats that they’ve been swinging of late. The Lady Cougars reached double-digit runs for the fourth consecutive game, this time, dusting off Lookout Valley at home, 13-1, Tuesday, April 18. Copper Basin jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first two innings and never trailed.
Alexis Hyatt singled and scored on an RBI double by Samantha Ware to put Basin up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. They added two more runs in the second inning when Caitlin Pack singled and eventually crossed the plate on a single from Brilee Harris. Hyatt drove in Harris with another RBI single to right field to put the Lady Cougars up 3-0. The Lady Yellow Jackets tried to climb back in the game, scoring a run in the top of the third inning, but that was as close as they would get all day.
Copper Basin opened the lead up more in the bottom of the inning as Destiny Pittman reached base on an error and scored on an inside-the-park home run by Riley Hall to make the score 5-1. Back-to-back singles by Riley Akens and Harris set the table for Hyatt, who delivered with a two-run double, adding to Basin’s lead. Angela Graves singled after Taylee Hall stole home, and drove in Hyatt to put the lead up to 9-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Cougars kept their foot on the gas, scoring four more times to put the game out of reach. Riley Hall and Pack singled and came around to score on a double by Akens. Akens scored on an RBI single from Taylee Hall, who later scored on another Hyatt two-bagger, making the score 13-1 and ending the game on a mercy rule.
Hyatt had a massive day for the Lady Cougars, going 4-4 with two doubles and four RBI’s, while Pack went 3-3. Riley Hall, Akens, and Harris had two hits for Copper Basin. Pittman was in control all game long on the mound, striking out three Lady Jacket batters.
